Course Information
Over the course of the week, you are invited to explore colour combinations reflecting the four seasons through the process of mokuhanga (water-based woodblock printing). Using water-colour, woodblocks and washi paper, we will create a colour-separated image inspired by the Japanese ukiyo-e tradition. Using our carved (and uncarved) wood blocks, we will experiment with seasonal colour combinations in the printing process. Using water-colour and rice glue to print, a change of colour is easily altered on the surface of the wood, creating different moods through a new colour palette. Over the course of five days, we will create a woodblock print in a series of 4 colour combinations inspired by Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring, all printing with a hand-held baren. Inspiration for our images can be gathered before arriving on the course or in the landscape surrounding Bridge House Art.
